Cancer Doctors in Los Angeles
Facing cancer is one of the hardest things we have to do in life, but with the right cancer treatment team, there’s always hope. At Pasadena CyberKnife Center, we’re proud to provide world-class cancer treatments from our state-of-the-art cancer center, and our cancer doctors work closely with patients to design treatments that fit into your lifestyle. We use cutting-edge technology to treat a wide range of cancerous conditions, including all forms of head and neck cancer.
Noninvasive Treatment for Head and Neck Cancer
Surgery is still one of the most prevalent methods for treating a variety of cancers, but because of the location of head and neck cancers, surgery is much less desirable for these conditions. Head and neck cancer may form in the throat, the sinuses, or anywhere else in the head or the neck, and surgery to these areas can be extremely invasive and have a long-lasting impact on a patient’s life. Thankfully, CyberKnife offers a new alternative.
The CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System is an exciting new method of cancer treatment that uses precision, high-dose radiation to eliminate cancerous tumors without the need for traditional surgery. Using a variety of industry-leading technologies, CyberKnife’s powerful robotic arm can deliver radiation to the site of a tumor with sub-millimeter accuracy, allowing us to kill cancerous cells without damaging surrounding tissues. Thanks to the revolutionary Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System, CyberKnife is also able to track the movement of the tumor on a millisecond basis, adjusting and compensating for movement from breathing and protecting nearby tissues and cells without the need for painful braces and immobility devices. CyberKnife presents a safe, effective, and completely non-invasive cancer treatment system, providing a more convenient and comfortable method for cancer treatment than ever before.
The CyberKnife Treatment Process
So how does the CyberKnife process work? Treatment is simple. We can perform CyberKnife treatment as an entirely outpatient process from our Pasadena cancer care center, and the entire treatment requires only five consecutive days of treatment. Most patients experience only mild side effects and are able to return to work or normal life almost immediately after completing the procedure, and many patients can even continue working while receiving the treatment.
While every patient is different, the treatment process usually goes like this:
- We’ll complete the treatment over the course of five consecutive treatment sessions at our office, each lasting roughly one hour.
- During the sessions, all you’ll do is lie still on the treatment couch. CyberKnife’s robotic arm will do all the work, rotating around your body to deliver radiation to the tumor from all angles.
- After finishing your last treatment session, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to track the progress of treatment and determine what, if any, next steps are needed.
